About… (August 2014)

I moved to Bunde, Zuid-Limburg (south part of the Netherlands, between Belgium and Germany, near Maastricht) and have 3 children now, the youngest was born in the beginning of July 2014. Time to craft is scarce, but I do need it as a creative outlet! Cardmaking is still my biggest hobby. I love to stamp and mess around with ink and other (to me) new materials and techniques!

Over… (Augustus 2014)

Ik ben verhuisd naar Bunde, (Gemeente Meerssen, vlak naast Maastricht) in Zuid-Limburg en heb nu 3 kinderen, de jongste is begin juli 2014 geboren. Tijd om te craften is schaars, maar ik heb het wel nodig, het is mijn uitlaatklep. Nog steeds is kaarten maken mijn grootste hobby. Lekker stempelen, knoeien met inkt en andere (voor mij) nieuwe materialen en technieken uitproberen!

This was the text next to my avatar: “This is Charlie and as any cat he likes to help when I’m crafting. This means walking over the table where stuff is drying, sitting on projects, knocking over things and ambushing me just when I’m about to do something delicate. If I’m lucky he just wriggles himself on my lap so I have to sit 20cm further from the table.”
On december 30th of 2012, we had him put to sleep. His mind was good, but his body was failing him. We were his third house, and if he indeed was 15 when we got him, as they said, he died at the age of 23 (plus or minus a year). So, no more crafting with the cat around. Luckily I still have this big painting I made of him standing behind the table, so if you look at the tabletop at eyeheight he’s still lying on my stuff! Charlie had a good life, was a lovely cat who loved me. (More then my partner). I have gotten used to the house without a cat, and I like it. No more smells, cat-hair everywhere, cat who wants to sleep next to you in bed or starts meauwing when you are about to fall asleep. Especially the sleeping bit I don’t miss, as my kids interrupt my sleep often enough. When we move out of this 95/100m2 appartment into a “normal” house, I’d like a cat / cats again, but not now, when it can’t go outside and I have to save it from the kids. Poor animal, that would be torture. No, I’ll wait, and in the meantime, Charlies painting keeps me company.

It’s time for a update. My life has change (a bit) and my blog has changed, it is not what I described anymore, it has evolved.

About me, Debbie

Some short facts about me: Born in 1980, Dutch, spontaneous, outgoing and friendly. Mom of 2 kids (boy from April 2011 and a girl from October 2012) & partner to a wonderfull guy. Currently we still have 1 cat, Charlie, he’s 23 years old, but I doubt if he makes it to January – he has a tumor on his back/hip. Read more in the “about” from October 2011 below. (My past is still my past, that didn’t need updating!)

About my blog, Daqadoodles.

I started out with the idea of helping non-english speaking dutch people find information about several crafts. There’s millions of English sites out there, and lots of information in English isn’t available in Dutch. Along the way it became too time consuming though to translate everything to English (or Dutch), and as I network more with English sites, my main language on this blog became English. Occasionally I will still translate posts into Dutch though. My layout has changed a bit and will continue to change, I like changing styles of the blog (easier then changing the style in my house, haha!).

The contents of the blog are varying as well. The things I write about:

Not all categories are mentioned here (I might change them around a bit or remove some).

Most these topics are ofcourse written from my own experience, my own thoughts or opinions. Only the crafting posts can be a bit “cleaner” -meaning only about the crafted item and not contaminated with personal things! Although, I love to write about why I chose a certain way, or about which meaning something has for me. I like to write the story behind the item, and that ofcourse is a “personal” thing.

Frequency of posts

I had periods of lots of posting, then a period of no posting (tired because of pregnancy, and wasn’t crafting anything else but a baby then!). I follow lots of blogs myself and have no time to read all of them completely. Many people follow lots of blogs, so to not spam you too much, I’ll limit my posts to 1 or 2 per week. (Notice I say nothing about the length of my posts, hihi!)

About…(October 2011)

Hello all! By means of this blog I would like to share my crafting experiences with you. Many of the projects I make are inspired by sites on the internet, mostly in English. I want to make that information more easily available for dutch speaking people.
Next to a dutch synopsis or translation of the tutorials, I’ll be adding more to the english-dutch list of products and terminology. One day this blog will hopefully be merged with my still to build site, http://daqa.eu. The site is available now even though it is still very very very much from complete. It is one of my projects as well, and why not share it live with you?

Who I am is not that important for the goal of this site, but a little bit of background information is good to satisfy the curiosity some of you might have about the blogger. (Like I have about other bloggers.)

It is now October 2011. About 31 years ago I was born in the beautiful town of Maastricht in the province of Limburg, in the south part of the Netherlands. I have lived there till I was 18, then I moved to the more blunt (or direct) province of Zuid-Holland. Even though the distance isn’t that much, 200km, there is a difference in culture. Limburgers prefer tact, politeness, keeping the peace, while “Hollanders” are more direct, open, and honesty and clarity is valued highly. This created some conflicts. Now, 13 years later, I might have become more Hollands then Limburgs, but the hills of Limburg keep calling (Holland is very flat). Who knows, one day I’ll go back…
At this moment I really like to live in the city of Den Haag (The Hague), I would have never had guessed that during my collegetime in Delft! The neighbourhood where I live is great. But. Unfortunately no garden or garage. Fortunately, The Hague is a very green town and there are plenty of green areas close to where I live.
In April 2011 our first baby, a boy, was born. My boyfriend and I are very happy to have him. Isn’t it a miracle, having a baby? This also was the main cause to reevaluate my career in ICT. I still haven’t figured it out, but starting a website and blog full of information is an idea that was the result of this reflection.

Information about crafting projects and techniques on this site is free, I want to share it, like many bloggers, with as many people as possible. I am a bit paranoid about sharing private information though. But read my blog and you’ll get to know lots and lots about me, I am an open book and I like to talk.

Over… (November 2012)

Het is tijd voor een update. Mijn leven is een klein beetje veranderd en mijn blog is veranderd, het is niet meer zoals ik het eerst beschreven was, het is diverser geworden.

Over mezelf, Debbie

Nog wat korte feiten over mezelf: Geboren in 1980, Nederlandse, spontaan, extravert en vriendelijk. Moeder van 2 kinderen (jongetje van april 2011 en een meisje van october 2012) & partner van een geweldige man. Verder hebben we nu nog 1 kat, Charlie. Hij is 23 jaar oud en ik denk dat hij januari niet meer haalt, hij heeft namelijk een tumor op zijn heup/rug, en is gewoon oud natuurlijk. Lees meer over mij in de “about/over” van october 2011 hieronder. Mijn verleden is onveranderd gebleven natuurlijk ;).

Ik begon met het idee om Engelstalige crafting / hobby informatie toegankelijker te maken voor Nederlandstaligen. Er zijn milioenen engelstalige sites op het internet, maar dat is natuurlijk niet allemaal in het nederlands te vinden. Niet iedereen spreekt engels. Ik wilde een brug slaan tussen engelstalige en nederlandstalige hobby-ers. Uiteindelijk kosste het vertalen echter teveel tijd. Dat , tesamen met het feit dat ik voornamelijk engelstalige sites lees is de reden dat gaandeweg de nederlandse vertaling verdwenen is en ik meteen in het engels schrijf. Af en toe zal ik nog wat dingen naar het Nederlands vertalen maar het zal meer uitzondering dan regel zijn. Op verzoek vertaal ik het natuurlijk wel – dan weet ik dat iemand het leest/ gebruikt en dat ik niet voor niks aan het vertalen ben!
De layout van mijn blog verandert trouwens ook regelmatig – ik vind het leuk om nieuwe stylen uit te proberen. De stijl van een blog aanpassen ins makkelijker (en goedkoper) dan de stijl van je huisinrichting, haha!)De onderwerpen van mijn blog zijn ook wat breder geworden. Hier schrijf ik onder andere over:

Niet alle categoriën zijn genoemd, ik verander ze misschien nog en voeg wat toe of verwijder wat.De meeste onderwerpen zitten ook vol met ervaringen, gedachten en meningen van mezelf. Alleen de crafting berichten kunnen wat minder persoonlijk zijn, vooral wanneer het een challenge entry betreft (een wedstrijd deelname). Alhoewel, ik vind het leuk om mijn keuzes voor kleuren, afbeeldingen en vormen uit te leggen, of waarom iets een bepaalde betekenis heeft vor mij (of de ontvanger. Het verhaal achter het object. Dat is natuurlijk ook erg persoonlijk, het lukt mij gewoon niet goed om een bericht zakelijk te houden, wat bijvoorbeeld fijn is bij een tutorial / handleiding!

Frequentie van berichten

Ik heb een bepaalde periode heel veel berichten geplaatst, en toen weer eigenlijk geen berichten. (Toen was ik te moe wegens zwangeschap, ook was ik niks aan het maken “creating” behalve de baby in mijn buik! Dat project was groot genoeg.) Zelf volg ik veel blogs en kom er niet aan toe om elk bericht van ze te lezen, gewoon omdat het er zo veel zijn en sommigen dagelijks een nieuw bericht plaatsen. Van mij is 1 of 2 berichten per week voldoende. Zodoende probeer ik maximaal 2 berichten per week te plaatsen. (Ik beloof echter niets over de lengte ervan, hihi!)

Over… (October 2011)

Goededag/avond allemaal!

Via dit blog wil ik mijn ervaringen met het zelf handwerken met jullie delen. Veel van de “crafting”-projecten die ik uitvoer komen van het internet, van engelstalige sites. Ik wil graag deze informatie toegankelijker maken voor nederlandstaligen.
Naast een nederlandse samenvatting/vertaling van de instructies (tutorial), wordt de engels-nederlandse producten en termenlijst continue aangevuld. Op termijn wordt dit blog samengevoegd met mijn nog te bouwen site, daqa.eu. De site is nu al gepubliceerd ook al is deze nog in de bouwfase, dit is namelijk ook 1 van mijn creatieve projecten. Zo kan je stap voor stap mijn worstelingen volgen.

Wie ik ben is verder niet zo belangrijk voor het doel van deze site, maar een klein beetje achtergrond informatie vinden de nieuwsgierigen onder jullie vast wel fijn. Ik ben in ieder geval wel vaak nieuwsgierig naar de achtergrond van andere bloggers.

Het is nu oktober 2011. Ongeveer 31 jaar geleden ben ik geboren in Maastricht, daar heb ik gewoond tot mijn 18. Toen ben ik vertrokken naar het harde, directe Zuid-Holland. Al is de afstand niet zo groot, er is toch een redelijk cultuurverschil.
Houden Limburgers meer van tact, beleefdheid en het bewaren van de vrede boven alles, zo zijn Hollanders direct, open, en gaat eerlijkheid en duidelijkheid boven alles. Dit zorgt wel voor wat conflicten. Nu, 13 jaar later, ben ik misschien wel meer Hollands dan Limburgs, maar die heuvels blijven toch roepen! Wie weet… ooit….
Momenteel bevalt Den Haag ook prima, dat had ik nooit gedacht tijdens mijn studententijd in Delft! De buurt waar ik woon bevalt ook prima. Maar helaas geen tuin of garage. Gelukkig is Den Haag een groene stad en is er genoeg natuurgebied en groene stukjes dichtbij.
April 2011 is ons eerste kindje, een zoontje, geboren. Mijn vriend en ik zijn erg blij met hem. Wat een wonder is het toch, een kindje krijgen. Deze gebeurtenis was ook aanleiding om mijn ICT-carrière eens goed te overwegen. Nog steeds ben ik er niet helemaal uit, maar het opzetten van een website en blog vol met informatie is wel een idee dat hieruit is voortgekomen.

Informatie over hobby-projecten en technieken is gratis, dat deel ik met zo veel mogelijk mensen. Mijn privé gegevens deel ik met zo min mogelijk mensen, wat dat betreft ben ik wat paranoïde over het internet. Maar ach, lees mijn blog en ik vertel je vast alles over mezelf, ik ben gewoon een open boek.Ik hoop dat je mijn blog met plezier leest. Aarzel niet om een berichtje achter te laten!
